Using hands and machines (gears) to bring the fantastic to life. We make laser cut models of science fiction spaceships and Lovecraftian monsters. The models ship unassembled for you to put together and decorate.
Since the laser cutter can only cut flat pieces the models are the framework of the design. This gives you an view into the inner working of the machine or monster. To add to this most models have one or more trapped wooden balls to represent the power source of the machine or internal organs of the monster.
What do you get when you mix graphic design, mechanical drafting, and a love of science fiction? Hand and Gear Designs of course. After years of drawing in Adobe Illustrator, I learned 3D modeling for mechanical drafting. I can do the artistic parts in Illustrator and then use 3D modeling to make sure the parts fit together. Finally the laser cutter cuts out the parts.
